Program: Maturity to Strength: Practical Use of the Maturity Method
Guest Speaker:
Icaro Mariani, P.Eng., M.Sc.
Director, Customer & Engineering Success, Giatec Scientific Inc.
Program Description:
This presentation will provide a practical overview of the concrete maturity method and how modern sensor technologies convert in-place temperature data into reliable strength estimates. Topics include the fundamentals of maturity, sensor placement and data collection best practices, and how to validate and interpret maturity-based strength predictions. Attendees will also explore real-world examples demonstrating how sensor-driven workflows reduce testing time and project risk. The session will conclude with brief case studies and actionable recommendations for engineers and technicians looking to confidently apply maturity-based methods in the field.
Speaker Bio:

Icaro Mariani leads Customer and Engineering Success at Giatec, where he blends academic research in concrete materials with extensive field and product experience. He holds a Master of Science in Construction Engineering, with research focused on the compressive strength of extracted concrete cores.
At Giatec, Icaro oversees technical product deployments and provides engineering support and best-practice guidance for maturity and sensor-based workflows, including SmartRock. He also leads initiatives for MixPilot and SmartMix, with a focus on in-truck slump sensing, plant-to-truck integration, platform reliability, and optimization for ready-mix producers. His work helps translate sensor and platform data into dependable strength predictions and meaningful operational improvements, drawing on his background in the ready-mix industry to bridge plant operations and field quality control.
